Warm up & foundations
We begin lessons with a gentle physical warm-up and breathing exercises which both prepares the body for singing and calms the nervous system. Vocal technique We'll then delve into vocal technique through a series of exercises and scales designed to develop muscle memory in both the voice and body. Singing requires coordination of intricate muscle groups, many of which operate involuntarily. As such, our focus will be on reprogramming any subconscious habits of tension and fostering proper alignment and breath support to achieve vocal balance and freedom. Since each singer possesses unique habits and strengths, the techniques we explore will be customised to suit your individual voice. Song work We then shift to song-work; where we work within the genres and styles that are most inspiring to you. This encompasses many different aspects including developing artistry, "feel", musicality, personal sound, and storytelling and performance techniques including singing with the microphone. Songwriters are also encouraged to bring their songs to sing and workshop if desired. |
